Lakeshore Learning Materials is the premier manufacturer of educational materials for elementary programs and early childhood organizations in the country. The project consisted of a new distribution center.
The facility features conventional steel construction with tilt-up concrete walls, main office, two satellite break room areas, large cafeteria/locker room area, and 45 loading docks. The warehouse area includes three mezzanines, two pick modules, high rack storage, and 40 battery chargers. Parsons provided design/build services for the lighting, power, and fire alarm systems, preparing all construction drawings and providing installation of the electrical systems.
Two 3000 amp, 277/480 volt electric services were provided. Power distribution system consists of two main switchboards each with a portable generator tap box to allow connection of a generator during a prolonged power outage. The power distribution system also includes (3) distribution panels, (5) lighting panels, (6) receptacle panels, (4) battery charger panels, (5) mechanization equipment panels, (3) UPS power panels, (7) conveying system control panels, and (13) step-down transformers. Parsons designed and installed power to all HVAC equipment, dock equipment, conveying equipment control panels, and battery chargers as well as a raised floor I.T. Room complete with UPS system.
Lighting systems included LED light fixtures throughout the facility as well as on the exterior. Lighting controls were designed to conform to the latest energy conservation code and include fixture, ceiling, and wall mounted occupancy sensors. Exit and egress lighting to meet the building code requirements was also provided. Parsons provided all lighting system design.
The fire alarm system was designed to meet the requirements of the Kentucky Building Code per NFPA 72. A complete ADA compliant system was provided throughout the facility.
