Big Ass Fans

Project Description:

Big Ass Fans is a leading manufacturer of high velocity/low speed ceiling fans that increase ventilation and energy efficiency in large commercial, industrial, agricultural, and institutional buildings worldwide. They also manufacture ceiling fans for residential use and industrial lighting and controls. Due to their rapid growth, Big Ass Fans needed a new corporate headquarters with future expansion considerations.

The facility features conventional steel construction with three concrete tilt-up walls, and exposed architectural steel entry. The interior consists of large open office areas, private offices, training rooms, conference rooms, cantina, computer room, warehouse, elevator, lobby, and utility rooms. Parsons provided design/build services for the lighting, power, and fire alarm systems, preparing all construction drawings and providing installation of the electrical systems.

A new 1600 amp, 277/480 volt electric service serves the building. The power distribution system consists of lighting panels, mechanical equipment panels, receptacle panels, and a UPS system. Much of the office area is open with exposed steel structure and modular furniture partitions. Parsons designed and installed a unique power and voice/data conduit drop system for these areas.

Lighting consists of energy efficient fluorescent fixtures throughout the facility. The open office areas have pendant mounted direct/indirect fluorescent fixtures. Lighting controls were designed to conform to the latest energy conservation code and include ceiling and wall mounted occupancy sensors. Exterior lighting consists of wall mounted and pole mounted HID fixtures. Exit and egress lighting to meet the building code requirements was also provided. Parsons provided all lighting system design.
