ABC Automotive Systems

Project Description:

ABC Automotive Systems is one of the world’s leading automotive systems and components manufacturers. They specialize in blow molding and injection molding plastics. The project consists of a new grinder room constructed within their existing facility as well as a bridge crane extension for a 10 ton crane. Parsons provided design/build services, preparing all construction documents, and installation of the electrical systems.

New 4000 amp and 3000 amp, 277/480 volt electrical services along with their respective main switchboards were added. Automatic power factor correction banks were provided on each of the new switchboards. The power distribution system consists of a plug-in bus duct system and (6) process equipment panels. Power to new HVAC equipment, cooling water system equipment, bridge crane, and grinder room process equipment was also included. Parsons coordinated the power distribution system design with ABC, the local utility company, and the equipment supplier.

Repairs to two existing main switchboards were made during a facility shutdown. Parsons coordinated with ABC, the utility company, and the switchboard manufacturer to make these repairs. Lighting systems included fluorescent high bay fixtures in the grinder room and exit/egress lighting designed to meet building code requirements.

The existing fire alarm system was modified and extended into the grinder room.

All of the work was done during a compressed 4-month construction schedule, completed on time and within budget.
